A BOOK FIT FOR A KING

A BOOK FIT FOR A KING

As the author of half a dozen books on World War II, I have over the years been fortunate to reach a wide-ranging international audience. But to have one of my books selected as a present for a king is a first. On May 24th, during the Memorial Day commemorations at the American World War II cemetery in Margraten, the secretary of the cemetery’s adoption foundation presented His Majesty Willem-Alexander, King of the Netherlands, with a calligraphed copy of my book ‘The Margraten Boys.’ The book, also available in Dutch translation, tells the remarkable story of how four generations of Dutch, through a program of adoption, have taken care of ten thousand graves and names of the missing as a way of saying thanks to those American liberators who made the greatest sacrifice.
