BASTOGNE CALLING

BASTOGNE CALLING

As the author of ‘Those Who Hold Bastogne’ (published with Yale), I am very happy and most honored to have been invited to become a member of the advisory committee of the newly created Bastogne Memorial. The Bastogne Memorial has ambitious plans as it sets out to transform Bastogne into an international center of documentation, research, education, and outreach with regards to the history of the Battle of the Bulge and World War II. The Bastogne Memorial is, of course, closely linked with the new Bastogne War Museum (see picture below). This cutting-edge museum opened its doors in March 2014 and has since exceeded all expectations by hosting more than 350,000 visitors from all over the world. But the Bastogne Memorial sees itself also as a reference partner for and an advisor to the many other excellent Battle of the Bulge museums that can be found in the Ardennes region, from La Roche to La Gleize and Diekirch. Last but not least, the Bastogne Memorial, in the spirit of European reconciliation and cooperation, will be actively engaged in fostering closer ties with World War II museums stretching from Caen to Berlin and Gdansk to ensure remembrance of the world’s most devastating conflict
